University of Twente
The University of Twente in The Netherlands is a young and innovative
university. Founded in 1961, the university offers a combination of
technical, behavioural and social programmes.
Focus areas of research are:
information and communication technology, nanotechnology,
biomedical technology, process technology, governance studies and
behavioural sciences.
With over 300 scientists, the Centre of Telematics
and Information Technology of UT is one of the major ICT research
institutes in the Netherlands, while the MESA+ Institute for
Nanotechnology has the coordination of the Dutch national nanotechnology
programma NanoNed.
UT offers 20 bachelor programmes and over 30 Master's
programmes with many specializations. Stimulating entrepreneurship amongst
students and staff is an important issue: in a period of twenty years,
almost 600 spin-off companies have been formed with support of the
university.
The University of Twente is the only campus university in The
Netherlands: facilities for education and research as well as recreational
facilities and student dormitories are concentrated on a former rural
estate.
