Abstract - A Look Into the Future: SVG and related XML standards

SVG Open 2002 - Jon Ferraiolo - Jon Ferraiolo Consulting

Presenter details:

Jon was the editor of the SVG 1.0 specification. From 1992-2002, Jon worked at Adobe Systems as an Engineering Director, Engineering Manager, and Senior Computer Scientist in the Advanced Technology Group (ATG). As a manager at Adobe, he supervised the development, testing and release of products such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, Display PostScript, Adobe Premiere, Type On Call, Adobe Dimensions, Adobe Streamline, and a consumer photo management product. Within the Advanced Technology Group at Adobe, he spearheaded many of Adobe's XML initiatives, particularly Adobe's involvement with SVG and the SVG Working Group at the W3C. He was instrumental in the PGML Submission (Adobe, IBM, Netscape, Sun) in 1998. Jon terminated his employment with Adobe in July 2002 in order to pursue new career opportunities in the area of innovative application of XML technologies, including SVG. Jon has a B.S. in Mathematical Sciences from Stanford University and an M.B.A. from Santa Clara University.

In this talk, Jon takes a quick step back to look at some big picture issues, such as how SVG fits into the world of XML standards, how SVG relates to the notion of the "New Document", and how the programming concept of Model-View-Controller relates to Web content development.
